Make Every Word Count
Do you believe in the power of words?
Let me tell you a story: A teacher had twenty students in her class. She consistently told ten of the
students they were brilliant and super intelligent, and she told the other ten they were miserable
failures. The next time she gave them an exam, the students who were told they were brilliant, did
extremely well. But the students who were told they were failures, failed. Why? I am convinced that
every word spoken carries positive or negative energy that causes some people to succeed and others
to fail. Make every word count!
Words are profoundly powerful. Words have started – and stopped – wars. Words have saved lives and
put others to death. Words can literally change the course of your life. Consider what happens when a
man asks a woman to marry him and she says, ‚I do.‛ The simple exchange of words (the wedding vows)
causes two people to redesign their entire lives around each other and their union. Make every word
count!
Words can pull you into mediocrity or push you toward excellence. What words are pulling on you? Are
they the toxic words of someone from your past that still haunt you in the present? What words are
pushing you? More than likely, they are the positive, encouraging words of someone who believes in
you. Make every word count!
Where you are in your life right now is the sum total of every word you’ve ever spoken, every word that’s
been spoken to you, and every word that’s been spoken over you. Words create pictures on the movie
screen of your mind. Then, you act out externally the ideas and beliefs that are projected in your
imagination. Every word that flows out of you from your spirit or that has been deposited into your spirit
by another, awaits your arrival in the future. Make every word count!
You’ve heard the old saying, ‚You are what you eat‛? Well, I have a new spin on that. Simon Says…You
are what you speak! My Brilliandeer (life coach) Dr. Mark Chironna told me several years ago, ‚If you
intend to be a world-class communicator, you must remember that it’s not what you say, but what’s
behind what you say that makes the difference.‛ In other words, character is not built in a public setting;
character is built when no one is watching. The choices you make and the words you speak when no
one is around are indicators of your true self. What you say in your quiet moments of desperation can
make you or break you. Make every word count!
The words that I share with you each week come from my heart and, hopefully, connect with your heart.
When they do, you feel as if I’m talking directly to you. I share what resonates in my spirit. I’m living
what I write about. This is who I am. The older I get, the more I realize I don’t have to hide my true self. I
don’t have to work to make you think I’m something that I’m not. I am free to be me. The chains of
self-limiting beliefs no longer bind me. A wise person once said, ‚It’s not who you are that holds you
back, it’s who you think you’re not.‛ Make every word – and thought – count!
